Many employees are now issued with compulsory work safety shoes or boots which are fitted with steel caps, rubber boots wellingtons or similar non-functional shoes are a nightmare when working in various industrial sectors such as construction, transport, warehousing and emergency services.
It's almost inevitable that many people wearing these types of shoes or boots will, at some point maybe earlier or later suffer from the problems of sweaty feet, bad odours, blisters, athlete's foot or poor skin.
Safety shoes can protect you from mechanical and safety hazards but they are no insurance for health risks. They do not actively breathe because many products offer some form of water resistant membrane technology to prevent accidental spillage or moisture getting to the feet, these membranes can create more health problems.
Imagine that the average foot looses approximately a litre of perspiration per day which inside a safety shoe or boot cannot dry or dissipate. The membrane creates a hot and closed area which just enhances the perspiration and bacteria problem.
In reality the membrane in safety footwear is similar to wearing a plastic bag on your foot. The wearing of normal cotton socks is contradictive as the foot temperature will increase and also the perspiration, even worse the humidity and wetness will create bacteria and then start to smell, giving a very fertile environment for blisters, fungus, eczema and general skin complaints.
What improvements can be made: - conventional medicines, restraining sprays and creams are at best risky because they may contain Aluminum-Chloride an extremely precarious substance which is considered as toxic by some environmental organisations. A review of the contents on the packaging could be frightening. These treatments are expensive and the results if any will only last until the next day.
Other alternative medicines:- that do get recommended are often pure cotton socks, foot baths, oils and creams and powders from natural substances. These are also no-less time consuming and sometimes they are even more expensive and limited on results.
